Platform Summary

Health Care Issues (Shelby S)

The United States is facing five known giant issues. Health Care has become a major difficult problem around the U.S in today’s society. Many people today believe that the
reform is in order, but therefore also many individuals are unaware of the problems the country is facing with this issue. Most average citizens in today’s society are concerned. The five issues include uninsured Americans, obesity on the rise, pharmaceutical companies, hospital shortages, and whether or not we should be under one health care plan.
Whether or not you are insured or not insured is a big subject. Depending on what insurance company you involved with. Today there is a estimated 46 million Americans without health insurance. Mainly Americans have given up on the insurance company because they don’t know how to deal with it, or handle it. Without health care insurance many people don’t go to the doctor because they cannot afford to pay for the cost. With that said, society is liable to suffer as a whole, without regular cheek ups, or just even vaccinations.
Obesity is another current is for the health care system. We hear all the time that “America is getting Fatter”. Reports from 2005 say that 64.5 % American adults were overweight. There are many reasons that contribute to the reason for obesity in America. Work places are becoming less strenuous, and the loss of jobs people are becoming more inactive and sitting around. This is causing more obesity to the loss of demand for jobs across the country.
The rising cost for medicine, Medicare, and Medicaid. Many doctors’ offices are stopping accepting certain medical coverage’s. This with that said has forced Americas to go else where, or live without insurance. This issue ends up converging with whether a family is insured or not insured. Then leads to society not being healthy.
Our group is going to attempt to fix this major issue to the best of our ability. We will do this by trying to improve health care plans. Make them more affordable so that society will be able to improve on its issues. This will not only help society but hopefully the United States as a whole. To improve the Health reform, and make the United States a healthier place to be.

National debt (A. Lesko)

The United States is in a serious national debt problem. The national debt has risen substantially in the last year and is a growing problem. Our group is very concerned about this growing problem and plan on turning this issue around to start helping out the citizens of the United States of America, slowly, but steadily.
National debt is the factor of many things. It is a problem today because the federal government is running out of money very fasts because they are not producing American made merchandise anymore, and instead, they are just buying supplies we need from other countries and spending billions of dollars that we don’t have. This is slowly but steadily putting our country in more and more debt, because instead of making goods and selling them to countries, the United States just buys.
A major reason for the national debt among the United States citizens is because major companies that produce thousands of jobs and make billions of dollars for the United States are closing. So because these factories are closing the U.S. is losing billions of dollars every day, because people that were working at these factory jobs are now unemployed and are signing up for unemployment which just takes money away from tax payers. And then to compensate for the money spent on the unemployed people the federal Government just raises taxes on goods that the United States citizens need every day which causes them to spend more and more money everyday putting them into more and more debt.
Our group is going to attempt to fix national debt to the best of our abilities. We will do this by starting to rebuild the companies that helped to create our great nation. By doing this we will create more jobs, the citizens will have more money to spend, which will cause money flow, which will slowly but steadily fix national debt. Another idea that we have to fix national debt is to try to stop paying other countries for their goods and services and try to open companies that make the product we are buying, but make it better and more affordable to the people. I believe that if I, Adam Lesko, am elected president of the united states I will be able to successfully fix Americas national debt problem, and change the way we spend our money to be more financially beneficial for the united states, and eventually erasing nation debt from our country.

Illegal Immigration (Benjamin S)

Illegal immigration is draining our country of precious jobs that many Americans desperately need now. The need for jobs was less before but now, with the current recession, jobs are in fewer supply than ever. More workers want more jobs and employers are offering less. Then, many of the jobs that they are offering are going to illegal immigrants because they’ll work for less. Employers want to save the most money that they can so they’ll naturally hire the cheapest labor that they can find. Then the fact that most of that money is going back to Mexico or not being spent in America is draining the American economy and slowly making the country a worse place to live. The employers that hire the illegal immigrants are merely looking out for themselves rather than caring about what happens to the country. This is one of the biggest reasons why the country is in its current economic state.
A high percentage of many work forces are made up of illegal immigrants: 20% of all chefs in the country are illegal immigrants. As well as 25% of construction laborers, 22% maids and housekeepers, 25% Grounds Maintenance workers and 29% of Agricultural workers are illegal immigrants. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimated a total of 143 million unemployed workers in the country, many of those workers were displaced by illegal immigration and the cheaper labor. Also,
the Center for Immigration Studies, which is in favor of some restrictions on immigration, recently issued a report looking at jobs and undocumented workers. One of its conclusions was that between March 2000 and March 2005, only 9 percent of the net increase in jobs for adults went to people born in the US. "This is striking because natives accounted for 61 percent of the net increase in the overall size of the 18- to 64-year-old population," writes Steve Camarota, director of research. So, many of the American Jobs are going towards illegal immigrants and this is draining the U.S. economy. Some extra illegal immigration facts include:
· The illegal alien population of the U.S. is about 20 million - roughly the population of New York State.
· Between 4 and 6 million jobs have shifted to the underground economy since 1990. These are not "jobs Americans won't do, but rather jobs Americans used to do.
· On the revenue side, the United States may be foregoing $35 billion a year in income tax collections because of the number of jobs that are now off the books.
· There are approximately 5 million illegal workers who are collecting wages on a cash basis and are avoiding both income and FICA taxes.
· The United States is hooked on cheap, illegal workers and is deferring the costs of providing public services to these quasi-Americans.
As for The Reformer’s stand on illegal immigration, we will drastically increase border security and make a nation-wide effort to deport illegal immigrants. Adam Lesko’s hope is that by being voted into office and carrying out these efforts, the U.S. economy can slowly be restored and the American jobs will once again belong to the Americans. The Reformers believe we need to get these illegal immigrants out of our country. However, they’re more than welcome to become legal citizens if they so choose. This is what we hope to accomplish if the Reformers are voted into office.

Military Budget (Benjamin S)

Unfortunately, a strong military is a necessity in our world because of the general unrest through out the world. Fortunately the U.S. has the strongest military in the world, hands down. Some may even say that it’s too strong. The excessive amount of money we spend on our military each year seems like way too much and we could be using it on other areas that desperately need it in order to increase the general quality of life nation-wide. This is exactly what the Reformers plan to do, while at the same time keeping the same quality of national defense that we’re all accustomed to, or at least enough where it wouldn’t make a significant difference in our safety.
The U.S. spends roughly $564 Billion on their military, this accounts for 41.5% of the military budget of the entire world. These figures show the importance that the U.S. places on its military and keeping the country safe from outside threats. Another figure that proves this is that China, the country that spends the second highest amount on their military a year, makes up only 5.8% of the world military budget. That’s about 8 times less than the U.S, annual expenditure. Some other facts include:

  • World military expenditure in 2008 is estimated to have reached $1.464 trillion in current dollars (just over $1.2 trillion in 2005 constant dollars, as per above graph);
  • This represents a 4 per cent increase in real terms since 2007 and a 45 per cent increase over the 10-year period since 1999;
  • This corresponds to 2.4 per cent of world gross domestic product (GDP), or $217 for each person in the world
  • The 15 countries with the highest spending account for over 81% of the total;
  • The USA is responsible for 41.5 per cent of the world total, distantly followed by the China (5.8% of world share), France (4.5%), UK (4.5%), and Russia (4%)
These figures should show that the U.S. spends WAY too much money on its military every year. The toughest competition (China) is way behind us, not to mention our many allies that make up another large percentage of the world military budget. Our forces alone are nothing to sneeze at but including our allies, we’re unstoppable. We even have money to spare, money that could be used to increase the quality of life through out the country. Essentially we are over-protected, we currently have no seriously pressing threats to our country’s safety and even the issues we are involved in right now (Iraq, etc.) aren’t nearly big enough to warrant this kind of expenditure. Instead this money could be used to help restore the American Economy and therefore restore American jobs and general well-being. This is what the Reformers hope to do if Adam Lesko is voted into office. We want to improve the quality of the people’s lives AND keep them safe all at the same time.

Oil Prices (Sean M)

Oil prices have doubled in the past year. It is affecting the economy of our citizens. Other countries have been using subsidies or price-caps to shield their citizens from the impact of oil prices. Rising oil prices are forcing policy changes and causing civil unrest. Especially in Europe, oil taxation is sky high. The president of Opec, the cartel of oil-producing countries, has given warning that the price of crude could hit $200 a barrel, sparking fears that rising fuel costs will force more businesses into bankruptcy. Chakib Khelil, the Algerian Energy Minister and president of Opec, said that the falling value of the US dollar would continue to drive up oil prices as investors sought to store their wealth in other assets. The price of oil hit an all-time high of nearly $120 a barrel today after North Sea production was shut down yesterday because of a strike at the Grangemouth refinery in Scotland.
Supply shortages are expected to get worse over summer, which is hurricane season in the Gulf of Mexico. Demand usually rises in hot months when air-conditioning units are operating at full blast. If financial investors continue to pour money into oil funds, as the president of Opec has suggested, this could cause prices to spike even higher
. Petrol prices are expected to reach more than £1.12 per liter next month as service stations feel the effects of the latest surge in global crude prices. There is a six-week time lag between global crude prices, which touched historic highs of nearly $120 per barrel this week, and pump prices. Diesel, which stood at £1.19p yesterday, could rise to £1.23p. Global crude prices slipped slightly yesterday to just below their record highs. They had risen sharply on Tuesday after an attack on pipelines in Nigeria. Global energy supplies are under intense pressure, with Opec, the oil cartel, refusing to raise output.
Records in New York and London have been broken almost daily over the past week amid concerns about a long-term supply crunch. Crucial talks aimed at averting a 48-hour strike early next week at the Grangemouth refinery collapsed last night. A few years ago Saudi Arabia said it would be able to lift production to 15 million barrels a day if necessary and to sustain that for decades. But officials, including Ali Naimi, the Oil Minister, now appear to be retreating, saying they are aiming for 12.5 million barrels.
As the Reformers, we plan to decrease the costs of oil. We plan to negotiate every week with outside oil providers and get great deals on oil prices. We plan to make getting around easier rather than worry about money. We will make pumping gas easier and less emotional. We will make it easier to decide who pumps and who pays.

Presidential Speech (Adam L)

Hello my fellow citizens of America. For the upcoming presidential election I A. Lesko plan on reforming America, and fixing the current problems that have been placed upon our country. The first problem I will be fixing, will the national debt in America. I as a citizen of America am very disappointed in the amount of dept we have put ourselves in, by shutting down our American owned companies that produced goods, which helped America make money. These companies being shut down are what really put our economy in the gigantic hole we are in. I plan on opening numerous amounts of companies that will be American owned that will sell to other countries, in order for American to slowly but steadily reform ourselves out of debt, so that we can get out of this depression.
Another problem that I have noticed in America, that many people complain about every day, are gas prices. Gas prices have risen substantially in the past few years. The reason for this is because we are running out of fossil fuels or oil. What I plan on doing in the future is having a team or oil riggers search for other oil pockets in the ocean and try to find another supply of oil for America so that we will not have to buy oil from al-Qaida. By doing this America should save billions of dollars a year also helping the national debt substantially.
One issue that I care about very much is illegal emigrants that come to America and steal American citizen’s jobs. The illegal aliens that come into this county take citizens jobs putting Americans out of work, I plan on scoping out and escorting all illegal emigrants out of the United States of America. By doing this I will create more jobs for American citizens. This will also help the national debt problem and help our country have more money flow.
Our country spends trillions of dollars each year on military funds every single year. Now as far as the war in Iraq goes, I plan on finishing what we started as soon as possible by all means. If in one year we do not make any progress in Iraq I will start to pull troops out of Iraq. By doing this, the United States of America will save trillions of dollars a year by not spending so much money on supplies for troops. With the money America will be saving we will open the companies that I talked about earlier, and help the financially troubled American citizens.
Medicare and Medicaid are very expensive for American citizens. I plan on lowering the cost of Medicare because old folks do not have the money for it so they get paid retirement money which is taken from taxes that citizens pay which just make people pay more money. So by lowering the cost the old people’s Medicare will help lower taxes and make everyone save money.
By executing my plans for the United States I will turn this country around, making it a more profitable country. Vote for me A. Lesko, and I will reform America for the good of the citizens of the United States of America.
